The Helpline Center provides the following services to Brookings County 

211 Hotline

211 is an easy to remember three-digit telephone number assigned by the Federal Communications Commission for the purpose of providing quick and easy access to information about health and human services. Professional Information and Referral Specialists work with callers to assess their needs, determine their options and provide appropriate programs/services, give support, intervene in crisis situations and advocate for the caller as needed. Brookings Activity Center

Providing a place where the Senior community can meet together to pursue mutual interests, receive educational services, participate in social and recreational activities that will                           enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their continued involvement in and with the community. Brookings Empowerment Project

The Dakota Smiles Dental Program

The Dakota Smiles Dental Program is a dentist office on wheels that offers preventative and restorative dental care to children who, for a variety of reasons, have been unable to access adequate dental care. Call the United Way to set an appointment at 692-4979

East Central Behavioral Health

ECBH provides comprehensive behavioral health care services to individuals in Brookings County and surrounding areas.  A full array of community-based services are provided, including: individual/couple/family therapy, substance abuse services, school& home-based child/adolescent/family services, recovery-focused care, outpatient psychiatric services, and much more. All ECBH staff are licensed and/or certified in appropriate areas of behavioral health. Michael Forgy - 697-2850 

East Central Court Appointed Special Advocate - CASA

Recruits, trains and supervises court appointed community volunteers who advocate for safe, permanent nurturing homes for abused/neglected children in the court system. Last year, 26 volunteer advocates brought encouragement and stability to 62 children in the foster care system. 100% of children served had the same volunteer advocate from the beginning to the end of their case. Independent Living Choices

Opening Doors for People with Disabilities.  Simply put, we’re the result of our founders’ beliefs; namely, that people with disabilities contribute and add to our community. That means working, enjoying life, and living independently.  Independent Living Choices lives by a simple mission that shapes everything we do: We provide services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. Our services include: Advocacy, Independent Living Skills, Information and Referral, Peer Counseling, Assisted Daily Living services, Community Living Services, Summer/Student Transition, Home Modification Adaptive Devices, Telecommunication Adaptive Devices, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Our goal at ILC is to help keep individuals with disabilities independent. Inter-Lakes Community Action 60's Plus Dining

Encourages socialization and activity while providing nutritious meals for adults age 60 and older in Brookings, Bruce, Volga, White, Sinai and Elkton.  In Brookings, home-delivered meals are available for those who qualify. ICAP 60’s Plus Dining serves more than 150 meals each day to senior adults in Brookings County (38,000 meals last year).  Participants are served in congregate and home-delivered settings. Each meal provides a full 1/3 of the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy diet. Special emphasis is placed on serving our “at-risk” homebound elders, allowing them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Area volunteers provide more than 7,000 hours of service to the 60’s Plus Dining Program annually. 692-1407

Lutheran Social Services, Brookings Counseling Office

Provides a wide variety of mental health counseling programs, on a sliding fee scale based on income, for individuals, families, and couples. Call 211 for more information.

NAMI

Provide the Family to Family course to family members as well as a new program NAMI basis.  Serving parents, teachers, caregivers who have children that are younger than 13 who are having behavioral difficulties. Call 211 for more information.

Volunteers of America, Dakotas

Promotes the engagement of persons 55 years of age and older as community resources in community involvement, delivery of volunteer services, and provide a quality experience that will enrich the lives of the senior volunteers. Aurora, Volga, Elkton, Sinai, White, Bushnell, Bruce and the State Parks all receive outreach through the RSVP Patrol.  These senior volunteers patrol schools, water supply areas, and ditches for trash and dead animals. This provides relief for the Sheriff’s Department. RSVP invites adults age 55 and over to use their life experiences, skills and talents to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. Senior Companions

Provides friendship and assistance to seniors allowing them to maintain their independence.  Respite care is also offered to family caregivers.   Activities include writing letters, shopping, errands and light housekeeping. Kristin Fox - 888-239-1210

Volunteer Service Bank

Matches volunteers in Brookings County with people and projects. We are a volunteer clearinghouse that serves as a method of exchanging services between community members.  VSB has nearly 70 Escort/Transport drivers providing patient transportation In Brookings and the surrounding area for patients in need of radiation/chemotherapy treatments and for other specialty needs.  Contact Kyleigh Cramer at brookingsvsb@swiftel.net  692-6102
