The Helpline Center provides the following services to Brookings County 

211 Hotline

211 is an easy to remember three-digit telephone number assigned by the Federal Communications Commission for the purpose of providing quick and easy access to information about health and human services. Professional Information and Referral Specialists work with callers to assess their needs, determine their options and provide appropriate programs/services, give support, intervene in crisis situations and advocate for the caller as needed. The Dakota Smiles Dental Program

The Dakota Smiles Dental Program is a dentist office on wheels that offers preventative and restorative dental care to children who, for a variety of reasons, have been unable to access adequate dental care for ages 21 and under. Dial 211 to schedule an appointment.

East Central Court Appointed Special Advocate - CASA

FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card Program

FamilyWize acts like a big buying group, pulling together millions of people that either have no health insurance (the uninsured), have high medication costs, or need to buy medicine not covered by their plan (the underinsured). Inter-Lakes Community Action 60's Plus Dining

Encourages socialization and activity while providing nutritious meals for adults age 60 and older in Brookings, Bruce, Volga, White, Sinai and Elkton.  In Brookings, home-delivered meals are available for those who qualify. ICAP 60’s Plus Dining serves more than 150 meals each day to senior adults in Brookings County (38,000 meals last year).  Participants are served in congregate and home-delivered settings. Each meal provides a full 1/3 of the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy diet. Special emphasis is placed on serving our “at-risk” homebound elders, allowing them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Area volunteers provide more than 7,000 hours of service to the 60’s Plus Dining Program annually. 692-1407

Lutheran Social Services, Brookings Counseling Office

Provides a wide variety of mental health counseling programs, on a sliding fee scale based on income, for individuals, families, and couples. Call 211 for more information.


NAMI is a non-profit organization that provides support to families who have a member who has a brain-based disorder.  Call 211 for more information.

Senior Companions

Senior Companions are older adults who help other adults live independently. Offering free supportive, individualized services to the elderly and adults with special needs to help maintain their dignity and highest level of independence.
